How to see how much data is in Archived server

  1. Power on or mount the archived server or its disk image
  2. Right-click each data drive → Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac)
  3. Note used space
  4. List what software and years the data covers

Record used space and the years covered; if it cannot be powered on, note the drive capacity and that it is unverified.

How to get a copy of your Archived server data

  1. Find the archived server or its disks and backup media, and note what software made the backups
  2. Have your IT contact power it on, or restore its backup, on a separate computer
  3. Copy the data folders onto an external drive
  4. Check that key files open, then label the drive with the server name and dates

An IT provider can copy the disks or restore from the last backup.

Old servers may need special hardware or software to read.

These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
