How to see how much data is in Asana

  1. Open a project in Asana
  2. Click the drop-down menu next to the project's title
  3. Hover over Export/Print and select CSV or JSON
  4. Note the downloaded file size, and repeat for every project you use

Record the total of all project export sizes; Asana exports are per project and the files are text only.

How to get a copy of your Asana data

  1. Sign in as a super admin and open the admin console
  2. Go to the Settings tab
  3. Under Domain settings, select Domain export
  4. Choose text only, or text and attachments
  5. Download the JSON export when it is ready

Super admins can go to the admin console's Settings tab → Domain settings → Domain export to request the whole organization as JSON, with or without attachments.

Domain export is only on Enterprise+ and Legacy Enterprise plans. Other plans must export project by project.

Asana’s official export instructions

These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
