Epic: see how much data you have, then export it.
Pick a system to see two things: how to check how much data is in it, and how to export a copy. No form, no sign-in.

How to see how much data is in Epic
- Ask your Epic analyst or the organization that hosts your Epic (Community Connect partner) for your data footprint
- Ask for counts of patients, encounters and documents, and years of history
- If you run reports yourself, use Reporting Workbench to count active patients
In most small practices Epic is hosted by a partner health system, so the numbers come from them; record patient count and years of history.
How to get a copy of your Epic data
- Identify who runs your Epic system (your IT team or partner hospital)
- Send a written request listing the patients, date range and data types
- Ask for an EHI Export or reporting extract
- Agree on secure delivery
- Store the files under your HIPAA safeguards
Your health system's Epic team can run exports such as the EHI Export (tab-separated tables), Bulk FHIR, or reporting extracts. If you use Epic through a hospital, request the export from that hospital.
Patient records are protected health information, so exports must be requested and handled under HIPAA rules. Rich text and images may not come out as tables.
These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
