How to see how much data is in Local server or NAS

  1. Sign in to the server or NAS admin page (or open it on a computer)
  2. Open Storage, Storage Manager or the drive's Properties / Get Info
  3. Note used space for each volume or shared folder
  4. Note which folders hold business data

Record used space in GB or TB, not the drive's total capacity.

How to get a copy of your Local server or NAS data

  1. Plug an external drive with enough free space into a computer that can reach the server or NAS
  2. Open the shared folders on the server or NAS from that computer
  3. Copy each top-level folder to the external drive
  4. Compare file counts and total size to confirm the copy is complete
  5. Label the drive and store it safely

Copy folders to an external drive or cloud storage; an IT provider can image the server.

Check that the server still boots and that backups are readable before promising an export.

These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
