How to see how much data is in Old database

  1. Find where the database file or server lives
  2. For a file (Access, FileMaker, SQLite), right-click → Properties / Get Info and note the size
  3. For a database server, ask IT to report database size and table row counts
  4. Note the years covered

Record database size in MB or GB and main table row counts.

How to get a copy of your Old database data

  1. Identify the database software (e.g. Access, FileMaker, SQL Server) and where its files live
  2. Make a copy of the database files before touching anything
  3. Open the database in its software and use its Export or Save As option for each table, choosing CSV or Excel
  4. Save the exported files and the copied database files together on a drive

Export tables to CSV or a database backup file with the vendor's tools.

Confirm someone still has the login and the software needed to open it.

These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
