How to see how much data is in Personal computers

  1. On each computer, open the Documents, Desktop and Downloads folders used for business
  2. Right-click the folder → Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac)
  3. Note size and file count
  4. Note how many computers hold business data

Record the size of business folders only, not the whole disk.

How to get a copy of your Personal computers data

  1. Agree with the owner on which business files to copy
  2. Collect business documents, desktop files and email archives
  3. Copy them to a shared company location
  4. Note what was found and where it came from
  5. Review the files for customer or employee data

Copy business files from the computer's documents, desktop and email folders to a shared company location, and record what was found.

Personal computers mix business and private files, so agree with the owner on what is copied and review anything with customer or employee data.

These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
