Data guides
Slack: see how much data you have, then export it.
Pick a system to see two things: how to check how much data is in it, and how to export a copy. No form, no sign-in.

How to see how much data is in Slack
- In Slack on desktop, click Admin in the sidebar and select Workspace analytics (Enterprise: click your organization name → Tools & settings → Organization settings → Analytics)
- On the Overview tab, adjust the date range to the longest period available
- Under Messages and files, note Messages sent and Files uploaded
Slack shows message and file counts, not a storage size; record both counts and note that bot/app messages are excluded and the counts only cover the selected date range.
How to get a copy of your Slack data
- As a Workspace Owner or Admin, click Admin in the sidebar
- Select Workspace settings, then Security → Import & export data
- Open the Export tab, pick an Export date range, and click Start Export
- Open Slack's email and click Visit your workspace's export page
- Click Ready for download to get the ZIP file
Workspace owners can export message history from Workspace settings → Import & export data. Some plans require a Slack request for private channels and DMs.
Slack exports include messages and file links, but may not contain the actual files. Count linked files where they are stored.
These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
